Psalm 119—His Law Is a Light to Your Path Even in Loss

“Blessed are those whose way is blameless who walk in the law of the Lord!” Psalm 119:1

Even during grief—as you face loss—walk in the law of the Lord. His testimonies. Seek and walk in his ways. Keep his commandments. Statutes. Learn his righteous rules.

“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.” Psalm 119:9

Even during loss—keep his ways according to his word—with your whole heart. Do not wander from his commands. Store his word in your heart. Declare his rules. Delight in his testimonies. Meditate on his precepts. Fix your eyes on his ways.

“Deal bountifully with your servant, that I may live and keep your word.” Psalm 119:17

Even in loss—keep his word—behold wondrous things in his law. Long for his rules. Keep his testimonies. Meditate and delight. Teach me your statutes. Make me understand your precepts.

Meditate on his wondrous works.

“My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!” Psalm 119:28

Even when your soul melts in sorrow, go to God’s word for strength. He is gracious with his law. His rules are faithful. Cling to his testimonies. Run in the way of his commandments. Keep his statutes and law. Delight in his path. Incline your heart. Turn your eyes. His rules are good. Long for his precepts.

“Let your steadfast love come to me, O Lord, your salvation according to your promise…” Psalm 119:41

Even in times of mourning, his love is steadfast. Trust his word. Hope in his rules. Keep his law. Seek his precepts, and speak of his testimonies. Delight in, love, and meditate on his commandments. Hope in his word. Be comforted by his promise. Do not turn from his law. Take comfort in his rules. Sing his statutes. Keep his law and precepts.

“I entreat your favor with all my heart; be gracious to me according to your promise.” Psalm 119:58

When in loss—cry out for God’s favor—seek his promises. Turn your feet to his testimonies. Keep his commandments. Do not forget his laws. Praise him for his righteous rules. Keep his precepts. He teaches his judgment and knowledge. Believe his commandments. Keep his word and precepts. Delight in his law. Learn his statutes. His law is better than gold and silver.

“Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.” Psalm 119:73

Even in loss, remember he created you. He gives understanding, so hope in his word. His rules are righteous. His love comforts you according to his promise. Delight in his law. Meditate on his precepts. Know his testimonies. Hope in his word. Long for his promise. Do not forget his statutes. Live according to his law. His commandments are sure. Do not forsake his precepts. Keep his testimonies. His word is fixed in the heavens. His law keeps you from perishing. Do not forget but keep his precepts. Consider his testimonies. Meditate on his law all day. His commands enlighten. Meditate on his testimonies. Understand his precepts. Keep his word. Do not turn from his rules. His word is sweet like honey. Get understanding and hate every false way.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105

Especially during loss, his word is a light for your journey. Keep his rules. Embrace life according to his word. Learn his rules, and do not forget his law. Do not stray from his precepts. His testimonies are your heritage and joy. Incline your heart to perform his statutes. Love his law. Hope in his word. Keep his commands. Be held by his promise. Regard his statutes. Love his testimonies. Fear his judgments. Long for his righteous promise. Learn his statutes. Know his testimonies. Do not break his law. Love his commandments. Consider his precepts. Hate what is false. Keep his wonderful testimonies. His word gives light. Long for his commandments. Keep his way and love his name. Steady your steps according to his promise. Keep his precepts. Learn his statutes.

“My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.” Psalm 119:136

During times of loss, agonize over those who do not keep his law. Shed tears for them and not just for your own brokenness. His rules and testimonies are right. His promise is proven. Do not forget his precepts. His law is true. His commandments are your delight. His testimonies are righteous forever. Keep his statutes. Observe his testimonies. Hope in his words. Meditate on his promise. His justice gives life. His commandments are true. Do not forget his law. Life is in his promise. Seek his statutes.

“Great is your mercy, O Lord; give me life according to your rules.” Psalm 119:156

Even in loss, his mercy is great. He gives life according to his rules. Do not swerve from his testimonies. Keep his commands. Love his precepts. His word is truth. His rules are righteous forever. Stand in awe of his words. Rejoice in his word. Love his law. Praise him for his righteous rules. Love his law. Hope in his commandments.

“I keep your precepts and testimonies, for all my ways are before you.” Psalm 119:168

Even in the face of loss, keep his precepts and testimonies. Seek understanding. Be delivered by his word. Learn his statutes. Sing of his word. His commandments are right. Choose his precepts. Delight in his law. Be helped by his rules. Do not forget his commandments.

“I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.” Psalm 119:176

    Love the way you remind us of these promises and commands starting with the phrase, “Even in loss.” Such a vital truth! Made me think of these lyrics…

    I know You’re able and I know You can
    Save through the fire with Your mighty hand
    But even if You don’t
    My hope is You alone
